Standard Business Card Size
How do you get all your contact information into a standard business card size? This is a dilemma for some people. I am often asked to put someone’s office number, cell number, toll free number, email address, office address, website, facebook address and Linked-In handle as well as their name, tag line and logo all in a 3.5” x 2” space. Whew! Even thinking about it strains my brain.
Many fear that if they don’t have every single piece of contact information on their card, that customers will not be able to reach them. The irony here is that the more text you cram into a piece, the less readable it becomes and the less likely potential customers will find it easy to contact you. If you want your business card to be readable, stick to the ‘Keep it Simple’ principle. There is a reason why the last Telus ad campaign has lasted so long. The clean white space surrounding the simple message and interesting animal picture make it super easy to read and it looks great.
So think about what is really needed on your business card before trying to cram everything on it. A famous author once apologized to a friend in a letter she had written saying, “I am sorry this letter is so long, I didn’t have time to make it short.” A well edited piece has great impact with few words. Keep it simple and make every word count.
