Design

Design at its core meaning implies order and purpose.

A designed object is created with a function in mind. Good graphic design is hard to see because when done well it isn’t noticeable unless you are looking for it. This is because bringing order and purpose to something you see makes it easy for the brain to assimilate the information. Hence the absolute imperative of knowledgeable design when marketing your business to potential customers. We only notice design – or lack thereof – when done incorrectly or poorly. If you have to hunt for the information or something is unclear, confusing or hard to see, the design needs work. At its best, design becomes art.

When marketing your business idea, make sure your message is not being hindered by a lack of knowledgeable design skills. After you have streamlined your primary contact piece – often a business card or website, the next step is to make each piece look consistent, this is simply what is meant by branding.  Many people feel their own efforts are good enough or they trust the print shop employee to design their card. Would you trust your doctor to roof your house? Would trust your mechanic to operate on you? Why not? Because each of these very skilled people would be operating (pun intended J ) out of their skill set. Make sure you hire the right skill set for the right job. Graphic design is a learned skill; don’t try to do it yourself.
