Logos

Your logo. It all starts here.

Your logo is the visual representation of your business to your prospective clients. It is your first impression so it is worth putting as much time and thought into it as you would for the products or services you offer.  Getting it right is crucial as your logo is the building block of your whole brand. Everything starts from here – your website, your business card, your packaging and store design.  A logo can either be just words or it can incorporate a simple image but the best ones speak on several levels both visually and in words. Here are some factors to consider when designing your logo:

Is it appropriate? We have all seen plumber’s trucks drive by with their name written in script. Script style font may be appropriate for some businesses but a plumber is not one of them.

Is it multipurpose? Good design always starts with the end result in mind. It doesn’t matter how much you like the design if a printer won’t accept the file or if it doesn’t upload to the web properly. How and where will this logo be used? Can it be used on both your website and social media pages as well as the side of your vehicle and your business card? Does it look good in both black and white and colour?

Is it simple? The best logos are simple. Keep your tag line separate. Logos have to be clear at any size, any smaller fonts included beyond your name, become visual clutter at smaller sizes. Your logo should be a clean, simple, easily recognizable mark that doesn’t look like your competitors.

You need a brand guide. What is a brand guide? It is a document that gives you all the nitty gritty details of your logo design that you, as a busy person, will never remember but are very important to your company’s consistent image. Which specific shade of blue was that …? Which exact font was used?
